Market is a world-class garden café/restaurant, situated in a quiet courtyard behind a classic 1930’s colonial building at the foot of Durban’s Berea in Marriott Road.
Market serves simple quality cuisine using locally and/or organic sourced ingredients in a professional, unique, and caring environment. Market is also known for it’s selection of award winning South African wines, freshly squeezed fruit juices and coffee. The fine dining dinner food specials change regularly and provide the perfect catalyst for any occasion, whether it be your first date or a birthday celebration. The courtyard has a central fountain surrounded by a a ring of Leopord trees, which provide all year mottled shade and it’s peaceful atmosphere. The outdoor furniture and tables are modeled around 18th century French garden furniture adding to Market’s allure. The restaurant’s indoor section is more modern minimalist while still providing the feeling of dining somewhere in Europe.
Market is always available for big parties, private functions or weddings.

Unity Bar has to be hands down my favourite go-to spot in Durban, to either eat or drink my feelings. When anyone asks about an ideal venue for a first date, a relaxed lunch, for chilled pre-drinks or even to entertain friends from abroad, I will mention one place and one place only: Unity. Somehow they manage to create an atmosphere suitable for all these varying occasions.
Well the inclusion of brasserie in their name says it all. According to sources, and by sources I mean Google, a brasserie is an informal, French inspired restaurant that offers a large selection of drinks. To sum it up – they offer a lot of good food and good alcohol. That right there could pretty much explain why this venue can keep a varied range of personalities happy. Yet while the exceptionally good food and impressive beverage choices are a plus, there is a lot more to this simple statement about Unity that warrants this degree of favoritism from my side.
